Rio de Janeiro zorganizuje letnie igrzyska olimpijskie w 2016 roku. Wyboru dokonano w piątek w Kopenhadze podczas 121. sesji Międzynarodowego Komitetu Olimpijskiego.
W trzeciej i ostatniej turze Rio de Janeiro pokonało Madryt. Wcześniej z rywalizacji odpadły Chicago i Tokio.
Jest to historyczna chwila, ponieważ po raz pierwszy Igrzyska Letniej Olimpiady odbędą się w Ameryce Południowej.
